At the TechFest 2009 happening in Microsoft’s Redmond office, Microsoft researchers will be showing off their latest projects and some of which pertains to some new search technologies being developed at Microsoft Labs worldwide. These include ideas relating to opinion index, entitycube, color-structured image search and a social GPS -driven location-based social networking.Opinion Search aims to elevate the current Opinion Index feature of Live Search by collecting, storing, and organizing user opinion data through product reviews, video game rental experiences, hotel booking activities and other data which are derived from users.
EntityCube , Renlinfang or web-scale entity summarization on the other hand mines the web and summarizes the web contents relevant to users’ search before presenting the search results. This provides for a more relevant and useful report that truly answers what the users needs.
Color-Structured image search is an image search interface which co-relates images that a user is looking for to a color assignment scheme related to the search keywords.
And the last cool new technology which will be previewed during the TechFest 2009 is GeoLife 2.0, a GPS -driven location-based social networking facility which is part of Google Virtual Earth. It will allow users to do their social networking activities while at the same providing users with life streaming service that uses their GPS trajectories.
