Every other late night commercial that you see deals with some new device that will help you cut down on belly fat. Whether it's doing some new variation on crunches or whatever else, they claim that the exercise alone will help you burn that fat. However, this simply isn't the case. Ab exercises alone will not get rid of your belly fat. The key to getting rid of stubborn belly fat is a combination of total body workouts and a healthy diet. Fat tends to burn off evenly off of your body. You really don't have any control over where the fat burns off when it goes. Therefore the idea of specifically burning off a certain spot of fat on your body is ridiculous. When you combine a circuit weight training workout with cardiovascular exercise, this is the best way to lose belly fat. You'll also have to eat healthier and drink a lot of water along the way.
With that being said, that doesn't mean that you should avoid doing ab exercises. They are still very valuable as a part of a total body workout. The main reason that you'll want to do ab exercises now is to be ready for when the fat starts to burn away. Once you eliminate that layer of fat that's covering your abs, you'll already have the six pack in place. Plus, the more muscles that you work, the more calories you're going to burn. When your muscles develop, they will burn fat even while you're resting. Therefore it has several different benefits for you as a whole.

There are many different ab exercises that you could perform in your workout. However, if you focus on about three, right off the bat, it will be better for you. You can just master these three exercises and they will work every part of your abs. This will put you in the position you need to be in once the fat starts to come off. Let's look at the top three ab exercises for your workout.

The best exercise for your abs is the bicycle crunch. In the bicycle crunch you are exercising every part of your abs including the inside and outside of the muscles. To perform this exercise you lie flat on your back and bend your knees at 45 degree angles. Then you go through a bicycle motion with your legs. When your right knee comes up touch your left elbow to it and so on.

The next exercise that you'll want to do is the Captain's Chair exercise. This will require the use of a piece of equipment to do, so you may or may not be able to do it. However, most weight rooms will have this. You hold onto the chair and put your weight on your elbows and forearms. You let your body dangle and then bring your knees up towards your chest and back down.

The last exercise that you'll want to do is crunches on an exercise ball. These are basic crunches that you can perform on an exercise ball while not going more than 45 degrees up.

With these tips in mind you should be well on your way to getting the six pack that you've been dreaming of.
